Google Yahoo No Deal
In the Search Engine Marketing / Online Advertising world the major players are Google and Yahoo. Between them, Google and Yahoo had more than 80 per cent of the web search market in August, according to comScore.
Google who was looking to acquire Yahoo has pulled out of a search advertising partnership due to regulatory objections. This is a tough break for Yahoo. Google announced in a company blog post that “battling the feds in court to save the Yahoo deal was too risky”.
Three minutes after the Google blog was published, Yahoo released a statement that the company was “disappointed that Google has elected to withdraw from the agreement rather than defend it in court.”
So will Microsoft be able to acquire Yahoo? Microsoft had no comment on the possibility of opening up re-negotiations with Yahoo.
Brad Smith, Microsoft’s general counsel said in a statement: “The Department of Justice’s finding is significant for advertisers, publishers and consumers, who voiced overwhelming concern about this illegal deal to law enforcement and policymakers.”
Oh well, another day in the Search Engine world.
